The property is a top-floor flat conversion in Hampstead, London NW3. The owner wanted to improve the fire safety of the flat by replacing the existing entrance door with a fire door and creating another fire exit via a window. Sashed designed a custom fire escape window, which functioned as a spring balanced sash window, contained within a frame that could be fully opened inward creating a fire escape route. The entrance door was replaced with a classically designed, four-panel fire door, finished in Farrow & Ball ‘Mizzle’, complete with easy release Banham locks, spy hole and brushed brass furniture. The window was painted in cool white paint. Both items were factory spray painted, which gives them a highly durable finish that will not need repainting for at least 10 years.
